KUANTAN - The Pahang state government will set up a special body to maintain and regulate tourist areas in the state, said the Chairman of the State Committee on Tourism and Culture, Datuk Sharkar Shamsudin.
He said that previously tourism areas such as the National Park, Tasik Chini, and Tasik Bera did not have a special body that had specific guidelines to regulate these areas.
"In the past, such tourism areas were regulated by too many agencies such as the Forestry Department, Department of Wild Life and National Parks (Perhilitan), and the district councils.
"So, we feel a special body is needed to maintain and coordinate guidelines in all tourism areas and in this regard, the state government had prepared a proposal paper for its establishment," he said.
He disclosed this to reporters after opening the 'Seminar on Career in the Tourism Sector' organised by the Pahang Office of the Ministry of Tourism and Culture (Motac) in collaboration with several other tourism bodies.
